Review: Going Natural with Dr. Organic

Blog-dr-organic

After using mostly oils (like sesame, olive, and coconut) for some years, I can’t wait to share with you my new skin regimen since I have discovered the products of Dr. Organic. Have been using them for a month now, so I can really tell if worth buying.

Let’s start with my mornings. My days begin when my alarm clock starts beeping at 6 AM. (Even when it’s weekend, my biological clock is making sure I don’t get too much sleep. Sigh…) And how good is it, to then get a little help from nature and get my sparkle back.

Because unfortunately, I’m not like those beautiful persons starring in blockbuster movies. Getting out of bed fresh and glowing.

No. Me, this person here, needs a nice warm shower first and then my beauty ritual can start. Well, ritual…a quick one, to say the least! Since we are on a “go to school/work” thing, I’m busy making sure my son gets showered, dressed. And that he eats his breakfast. I warm up his lunch and check he brushes his teeth well, so I don’t have too much time to play dress up. Because somewhere in between, I need to find time to have my own breakfast, get showered, get dressed and put on a little make-up.

Anyway, it’s been a couple of years now since I stopped buying mainstream face and skin moisturizers and only use organic oils, shower gel, and shampoo instead.

I have a sensitive skin and if I don’t carefully check ingredients, my cheekbone area tends to get red and too many chemicals, like perfume, give me a rash on my arms. Therefore I wanted to go natural. See if that would work better on my skin. Avoid nasty parabens, sulfates, perfumes et cetera and I can tell you, it works amazing!

And then I came across Dr. Organic. It’s a UK based company and they utilise only the finest natural and organic raw materials wherever possible. (Source: Dr Organic )

Face

dr-organic-face-washTo rinse and clean my face (mornings and evenings) I use the Deep Pore Cleansing Face Wash from the Skin Clear range. The scent of citrus is very invigorating and it really helps my to start my day. My skin feels soft and fresh.

I also noticed that my teint stays clear and radiant with less imperfections due to AHA’s (Alpha-Hydroxy Acids) and BHA (beta hydroxy/salicylic acid). Asian skin tones tends to get dull and greyish when not properly taken care of.

What Dr Organic says about it:

A purifying face wash rich in Salicylic Acid and infused with a powerful blend of Tea Tree Oil, Orange and Grapefruit Extracts. Assisting in the exfoliation of dead skin cells, regular use of this face wash helps to leave the skin smoother, clearer, calmer and less oily. We have combined natural AHAs (Fruit Acids) from a unique botanical complex with a proprietary selection of bioactive, natural and organic ingredients. We have also infused this wash with highly beneficial Willow Bark Extract to help calm the skin and reduce redness.

2 Days a week, morning time, I substitute this face wash with the Exfoliating Scrub from the same range. I like the small granules, so it doesn’t feel like I’m wiping a rough sandpaper all over my face. It removes old skin cells and leaves my skin even more softer. After using this product, my day cream melts in my skin. Love it!

What Dr Organic says about it:

A truly invigorating scrub ideal for oily and blemish-prone skin due to the presence of natural AHAs (Fruit Acids) and Salicylic Acid. These are combined with a proprietary blend of bioactive, organic and natural plant extracts such as Tea Tree Oil, Grapefruit and Chamomile to help increase the rate of skin cell renewal while also providing unique exfoliating benefits. Natural particles of volcanic lava and Willow Bark Extract are also included to help calm the skin, leaving it feeling smoother, calmer and clearer – with visibly reduced pores.

Talking about face cream… I first tried the Rose Otto range for day and night, which is very rich and helps fight the signs of aging. The products smell lovely. It’s like putting on a flower bed of roses on your face.

What Dr Organic says about it:

A rejuvenating cream formulated with Organic Rose Otto Oil, Rose Flower Water, Aloe Vera, Hydrpfiltrat Menyanthes, Argan Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Borage Oil, Irish Moss, Shea Butter, Limeflower, Chamomile, Passionflower, Calendula, Vitamin E plus Geranium and Clove Essential Oils. This rich aromatic nourishing cream penetrates the subcutaneous layers of the epidermis, to stimulate cell regeneration and help support collagen and elastin synthesis, leaving the skin hydrated, nourished, firmed and bursting with cell regenerated health.

dr-organic-daycreamHowever, even though my skin is very dry, I found this cream too rich for day time. I ended up with having a couple of pimples, like when your face is getting too oily. So I quit using this product and tried the Aloë Vera one instead and it is a perfect match!

It moisturizes my skin, feels fresh and draws in quick. I use the concentrated version (there’s no day/night cream in this range):

What Dr Organic says about it:

A naturally soothing, hydrating and rich restorative cream offering all-day care and protection, based on double strength organic Aloe Vera and combined with Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Sweet Almond oil and Panthenol.

Before going to bed I still use the Rose Otto night cream. It leaves my skin so soft! After waking up, I really feel the cream did his work. My skin feels soft and relaxed.

dr-organic-rose-otto-night-creamWhat Dr Organic says about it:

An anti-ageing overnight rescue cream based on Organic Rose Otto Oil blended with Rosehip Oil, Rose Flower Water, Aloe Vera, Shea Butter, Japanese Fruit Wax, Irish Moss, Jojoba Oil, Passionflower, Limeflower, Chamomile, Calendula, Vitamin C, Vitamin E plus Geranium and Clove Essential Oils. This aromatic anti-aging cream, developed to penetrate deep into the skin’s epidermal layer, works to fight and repair wrinkles, instantly hydrating and restoring the natural intercellular structure and leaving the skin radiant, smooth, rejuvenated and intensely moisturise

One time a week I still use my favorite sesame oil instead to give my skin a hydration boost and to sooth any imperfections I might have.

Bodyworks

As I was looking for a shower gel that has moisturizing and hydrating properties, I opted for the Virgin Coconut range. Which says: “Nourishing, Hydrating, Regenerating and Refreshing” on the packaging and this is exactly what my skin needs.

dr-organic-bodywash

What Dr Organic says about it:

Rich daily bath and shower gel, Organic Virgin Coconut Oil is renowned for its nourishing and hydrating properties. It is also rich in Medium Chain Triglycerides which moisture the skin. By combining this unique natural ingredient with a propriety blend of bioactive and organic ingredients it leaves the body feeling regenerated, refreshed and invigorated.

Good choice here as well. It doesn’t have that intense heavy coconut smell, but it’s light and fresh. When I lather my body, it feels really soft on my skin. It feels more like a shower oil, then gel due to the ingredients. I like to leave it there for a while and then rinse off, hoping the scent will stick to me a bit.

After my relaxing but invigorating shower, I use the body lotion from the same range so that the scent will be more intense and as the lotion has the same properties, my skin is hydrated and soft. The lotion is not greasy and I can put on my clothes right after this, without feeling sticky or getting any stains.

What Dr Organics says about it:

A super hydrating, skin nourishing tropical lotion rich in triglycerides, antioxidants and cell regenerating proteins. Organic Coconut Oil is renowned for its unique, nutritious, hydrating and anti-aging properties. In combination with our proprietary blend of natural and organic ingredients, this multi tasking super oil rich Medium Chain Triglycerides works in harmony to effectively hydrate and restore the epidermal structure, leaving the skin perfectly balanced, rejuvenated and naturally smooth.

Hair

I’m not one to wash my hair every day but when I do, I need a shampoo that gives my hair a boost. I’m dyeing it, so my hair needs to be moisturised and repaired. My Manuka Honey Shampoo does just that. It smells heavenly and makes my hair absolutely soft and shiny. No need for a conditioner here!

dr-organic-shampooWhen I feel my hair and scalp do need something extra, I use an oil (sesame, avocado or another nut oil) to massage my scalp, hair follicles and hair ends. Normally I do this once, every other week.

What Dr Organic says about it:

A restoring and protecting shampoo formulated with Organic Manuka Honey and Aloe Vera. This rich moisturising shampoo penetrates deep into the hair’s fibres to restore flexibility, repairing, soothing and nourishing roots and scalp adding a healthy lustre to the hair, leaving it feeling silky soft, regenerated and totally manageable. Suitable for frequent use on most hair types.

Conclusion

To conclude my story: I’m very happy using the products of Dr Organic. They really do what they claim to do. My skin and hair really got a power boost and is looking more radiant and healthy.

I like the fact that the products are organic, with all the good properties and without the nasty ones mentioned above in the green framework. Because of that, I find the shower gel, skin lotion and shampoo very good to use for my 6 year old son too. (Using avocado oil for his face)
